The Hindi edition book launch of Raazi-fame Calling Sehmat witnesses the presence of Janhvi Kapoor and Navy Chief Karambir Singh

Noida: Delhi’s constitution Club witnessed the book launch of the Hindi edition of Calling Sehmat; a book written by Harinder Sikka, the Group President, Strategic Business for Piramal Group. The Bollywood blockbuster, Raazi is based on this book.

Many celebrities including Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor and Penguin Random House Editor-in-Chief, Language Publishing Vaishali Mathur were present in this book launch.

Calling Sehmat is a spy thriller based on the real story of the unsung war heroine, Sehmat.

On this occasion, Calling Sehmat’s writer Harinder Sikka explained the story behind the writing of the book. He remembered a story during the Kargil war when he wanted to accompany the troops to serve as an undercover journalist and he met Sehmat Khan’s son, which was where it all began.

Harinder also noted, ‘Sehmat was an angel, and she was proof that a Kashmiri woman was as patriotic as the common Indian.’

Calling Sehmat is the story of this Indian spy, Sehmat Khan, who marries a top Pakistani general’s son and regularly sends secret information to the intelligence agencies in India.

Sehmat is a young, college-going Kashmiri girl and when she comes to know of the last wishes of her dying father, she gives up her passions and devotes herself to the cause of safeguarding her nation and boldly takes on the life-threatening role of a spy.

Admiral Karabmir Singh said at the launch that it was a proud moment for him to be present her on this occasion. He said, ‘Calling Sehmat is already a success in English and I hope that it will be an even bigger hit in Hindi and reach a wider audience.’

Janhvi Kapoor rightly said that we all share devotion for our motherland unlike any other found anywhere else in the world and when Sikka narrated to her the story of Calling Sehmat, she felt inspired by the courage displayed by Sehmat. Jahnavi also expressed her love for books. She said, ‘Every reader has his own idea about a book and there was no comparing the film with the book it is adapted from.’

Vaishali Mathur, Editor-in-Chief, Language Publishing at Penguin Ramdom House India extended a warm welcome to the guests on this occasion and the renowned radio jockey, RJ Swati, was the moderator of the session.
