The Name That Almost Was: Sohail Khan Wanted to Name His Firstborn ‘Ram Khan’
Former couple Sohail Khan and Seema Sajdeh are currently turning heads on the reality show Alliance. Instead of the typical post-divorce drama, the two are winning viewers over with their mutual respect and easy camaraderie. In a recent episode, Sohail shared a fascinating, lighthearted story about how they named their eldest son, Nirvaan.
During a chat with fellow contestant Aly Goni, who praised the former couple’s parenting style, Sohail revealed that their firstborn almost had a very different name.
“When Seema was carrying Nirvaan, we jokingly decided that if we had a baby boy, I would get to name him,” Sohail recalled. “I wanted to name my son Ram. Ram Khan. We are very secular that way.”
However, Seema had the final word. As Sohail explained, when she woke up after giving birth, she was still slightly drowsy but immediately asked, “How is Nirvaan doing?” Sohail said the moment was so beautiful that he instantly dropped his original plan. He also joked that Nirvaan grew up to match his name, turning out to be a very calm and composed person.
Healing Old Wounds on National Television
Sohail and Seema separated in 2022 after 24 years of marriage, but their time on the show has allowed them to reflect openly on their past. Sohail has been vocal about his deep respect for Seema, even taking responsibility for the breakdown of their marriage during a candid conversation with Nikhil Chinappa.
Sohail admitted that during a period when his career wasn’t doing well, he wasn’t in the right frame of mind. He acknowledged that his behavior ultimately led to losing someone he deeply loved. Despite the split, he emphasizes that respect remains their priority, especially for the sake of their two children.
The reality show has unexpectedly served as a bridge for the exes. Sohail noted that the experience helped them reconnect and fill a missing link in their communication.
A Masterclass in Co-Parenting
Outside of the show, Sohail and Seema have established a healthy routine for their family. The two sons live with Sohail, but Seema visits frequently. Sohail shared that he gave her a set of keys so she can come over whenever she likes, ensuring that their living arrangements remain completely stress-free for the kids.
The couple originally eloped and married in 1998 before finalizing their divorce in 2022. Today, they are focused on building a peaceful modern family dynamic while Seema has moved forward in her personal life with partner Vikram Ahuja.
