Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals’ young prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the talk of the town after smashing a breathtaking 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, leading his team to a commanding 8-wicket win and reviving their playoff hopes. But behind the scenes, an inspiring interaction with two Indian cricket legends—Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni—has added a special chapter to his incredible journey.
Team manager Romi Bhinder revealed to Sports Today on Monday (April 28) how the 14-year-old got the rare chance to speak with both superstars shortly before his record-breaking knock.
“Yes, he met Dhoni during our last match in Guwahati. He’ll meet him again in the reverse fixture against CSK. You can see similar traits—both are calm, composed, yet play aggressive shots,” said Bhinder.
According to Bhinder, Dhoni was deeply impressed by Vaibhav’s maturity and stroke play at such a young age.
“Mahi said, ‘Looks like you’ve got a baby in your team, but he’s playing shots like a mature pro!’”
Vaibhav will reunite with Dhoni when Rajasthan Royals take on Chennai Super Kings on May 12 in Chennai—a fixture now even more anticipated by fans.
Virat Kohli’s Words to Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav, a huge fan of Virat Kohli, finally got to meet his idol after the Royals faced off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Kohli, 36, took time to speak with the budding star and offered advice that could shape the foundation of his career.
“Virat told him to stay grounded, stay humble, and keep working hard,” Bhinder said. “They also exchanged a few technical tips about batting.”
Vaibhav’s century and his encounters with two of the game’s greatest icons have not only boosted his confidence but also captured the imagination of fans across the nation. As the IPL season heats up, all eyes will be on the teen wonder and how he carries forward the wisdom of the legends he now looks up to even more.
