Putin-Modi Selfie Shakes Up Washington: US Lawmakers Slam Trump Over India Policy

Putin-Modi Selfie Sparks Uproar in US Congress Over Trump’s India Policies

A recent selfie featuring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin has ignited a heated debate in the US Congress. Putin’s visit to India earlier this month, which included high-level talks and a major summit in New Delhi, has triggered criticism from American lawmakers targeting President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.

US Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove called Trump’s approach toward India “cutting our nose to spite our face,” warning that coercive diplomacy risked damaging America’s long-term strategic partnership with New Delhi. “You don’t win a Nobel Peace Prize by driving US allies into the arms of our adversaries,” she stated during a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing.

Kamlager-Dove urged Congress to act swiftly to repair the damage, emphasizing that the US-India partnership is “vital to American prosperity, security, and global leadership.”

Echoing her concerns, Representative Bill Huizenga stressed that the US-India relationship is “a defining partnership of the 21st century.” He warned that authoritarian powers like China and Russia are “redrawing borders by force and undermining democratic norms,” highlighting the importance of a strong alliance with India.

Huizenga added that a new trade deal between the two nations could enhance bilateral ties and economic opportunities. “American companies are eager to invest in India on a fair playing field,” he remarked, urging the continuation of bipartisan efforts to strengthen cooperation with New Delhi.
