Indian Man Denied US Visa in Just 60 Seconds After Mentioning Girlfriend in Florida

An Indian man’s dream holiday to Florida ended before it even began—after his US tourist visa was rejected in less than a minute at the US Embassy in New Delhi.

The applicant, using the Reddit handle nobody01810, shared his shocking experience on the platform to understand what may have gone wrong and to seek advice for a future attempt.

“I had my B1/B2 visa interview at the US Embassy recently, and I was rejected in less than a minute after just three questions. I’m trying to understand what went wrong and how I can improve for next time,” he posted.

🛂 The 3 Questions That Got Him Rejected

During the interview, he was asked:

  1. Why do you want to travel to the US?
  2. Have you ever traveled outside of India?
  3. Do you have any family or friends in the US?

He answered honestly—he wanted to visit Florida for a vacation, had no prior international travel history, and revealed he had a girlfriend living in Florida.

Unfortunately, that last detail may have raised red flags.

⚠️ Was Honesty the Problem?

Many Reddit users in the r/USvisascheduling community speculated that his mention of a girlfriend could have suggested potential immigration intent, which might have contributed to the rapid rejection.

He asked fellow users:

“Should I have avoided mentioning my girlfriend if my trip was for tourism? What would you recommend before reapplying?”

🌍 Visa Rejections Becoming More Common?

His case adds to growing reports of strict US visa denials under tightened scrutiny—even for short visits. For instance, in March, a French scientist was denied entry to the US after airport officers allegedly found messages on his phone critical of former President Trump.

The scientist, traveling to a conference near Houston, was searched randomly. His phone and laptop were reportedly checked, and he was accused of writing messages that “reflect hatred toward Trump,” which officials claimed could be considered terrorism-related.

He was sent back to Europe the following day, with all his equipment confiscated.

What You Can Learn From This

If you’re planning to apply for a US visa:

  • Build a solid travel history first.
  • Stick to tourism-related responses if applying for a B1/B2 visa.
  • Avoid mentioning relationships unless absolutely necessary.
  • Prepare your documentation and itinerary thoroughly.

📢 Final Thoughts

As the US tightens its immigration and visa screening, even honest applicants with legitimate intentions may face unexpected denials. The key is preparation, clarity, and understanding how your answers might be interpreted.
