Ford Set to Reinvest Rs 3,250 Cr in India, Revival Begins from Chennai Plant

In a striking comeback, Ford Motor Company is gearing up to reinitiate manufacturing in India with a massive Rs 3,250 crore investment. The automaker has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to revive its Chennai facility, focusing on next-generation powertrain production.

This move marks Ford’s renewed commitment to the Indian market following its 2021 exit from local vehicle manufacturing. The fresh initiative builds upon the company’s 2024 Letter of Intent to transform the Chennai plant into a global hub for engine production.

Production of the new powertrain lineup is expected to begin in 2029, with an estimated annual capacity of 2.35 lakh engines. The project is also projected to generate over 600 direct jobs and numerous indirect opportunities in the supply chain.

While Ford has not announced any immediate plans to resume car sales in India, it will continue offering service, spare parts, and warranty support to existing customers. The latest investment signals a strong revival of confidence in India’s manufacturing potential and a strategic boost for Tamil Nadu’s industrial growth.
