After Legal Battle, Arvind Kejriwal Finally Gets Luxurious Govt Bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate

After a prolonged legal tussle with the central government and intervention by the Delhi High Court, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and ex-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a spacious Type 7 government bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate. This residence, once occupied by BJP leader Iqbal Singh Laalpura, marks a significant win for Kejriwal after vacating his previous home at 6 Flagstaff Marg in October 2024.

Delhi lacks a formal provision for ex-Chief Ministers to retain government housing, forcing the party to fight for suitable accommodation for their leader. The AAP had argued that as head of a national party, Kejriwal deserved a Type 8 bungalow. Although the Type 7 bungalow allotted is slightly smaller, it boasts four bedrooms, a hall, waiting and dining rooms, and two lawns, meeting the needs of Kejriwal’s official and family requirements. An existing camp office with two rooms and staff quarters used by personnel for nearly a decade also form part of the property.

Sources confirmed that Kejriwal and his wife, Sunita, inspected the bungalow earlier Monday. The family is expected to move in after necessary renovations and modifications are completed.

This allotment closes a contentious chapter overshadowed by the ‘sheeshmahal’ controversy, where Kejriwal faced political backlash over alleged lavish renovations at his previous official residence. BJP leaders had levied accusations of extravagant government spending, challenging AAP’s image of clean governance. The new bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate offers a fresh start amid these past controversies and legal battles.

With this move, Kejriwal secures a residence befitting his status as a national political leader while putting behind the years of legal delay and political disputes over official housing.
