Anupam Kher Inspires at Samarth India Conclave 2025: “Disability Is a Superpower, Not a Limitation”
At the Times Network’s Samarth India Conclave & Expo 2025, veteran actor Anupam Kher captured hearts with an inspiring message — “Disability is a superpower.”
The national event, organized in partnership with Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), brought together policymakers, innovators, and changemakers to spotlight the importance of accessibility and inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Anupam Kher, speaking at one of the most impactful sessions, shared personal stories that redefined perceptions of disability. “When I came to Mumbai in 1981, many said I couldn’t act because I was bald — but that became my strength. Similarly, people with disabilities often possess hidden abilities that the world overlooks,” he said, adding, “The opposite of normal is not abnormal; it is extraordinary.”

Kher also spoke of real-life inspirations, including a visually impaired co-traveler who taught him to “see” differently, and his autistic niece, who inspired his film Tanvi the Great. He emphasized that the nation should replace sympathy with sensitivity, inclusion, and respect.
Beyond speeches, the Samarth India Conclave 2025 showcased groundbreaking assistive technologies, accessible mobility solutions, and inclusive design innovations aimed at empowering PwDs to live with greater independence.
By bringing together leaders in technology, cinema, mobility, and public policy, the Conclave marked an important step in building a more empathetic and accessible India — one where every individual, regardless of ability, can live and participate with pride.
