Kevin Pietersen Applauds Sarfaraz Khan’s Shocking 17kg Weight Loss, Sends a Message to Prithvi Shaw

Noida: Former England star Kevin Pietersen has given a massive shoutout to Sarfaraz Khan, who has stunned fans and critics alike by shedding 17kg ahead of the new domestic cricket season. Known for his explosive batting in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz has long faced questions about his fitness despite his consistent performances.

Now, just weeks before domestic action kicks off, Sarfaraz dropped a photo from a gym session that sent social media into overdrive. The slimmed-down version of the batter impressed none other than Pietersen, who tweeted:

“Outstanding effort, young man! Huge congrats… Can someone show Prithvi this, please? It can be done! Strong body, strong mind.”

Pietersen’s subtle nudge at Prithvi Shaw wasn’t lost on anyone. The Indian batter, once touted as the next big thing, has struggled to reclaim a spot in the national side and recently moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra in a bid to reboot his career.

“In this phase, I feel joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Prithvi said in a statement last month after receiving a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz’s transformation has revived calls for his return to the national side. The batter made his India Test debut in February 2024 against England but hasn’t secured a permanent place in the squad.

Reacting to his omission from the current England series, Harbhajan Singh had said:

“It’s very unfortunate… I was shocked not seeing his name. He has the will to come back. Don’t be disheartened your time will come.”

With his renewed fitness and hunger, Sarfaraz may have just reignited the race for India’s middle-order spots. And if Pietersen’s words are anything to go by, others especially Prithvi might want to take notes.
