4,000+ Hours, 1,500+ Titles & 25 Classic Films Dropped: Ultra Jhakaas Unveils Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din Stream Fest
Ultra Jhakaas, the top Marathi OTT platform in India, is rolling out a huge “Marathi Bhasha Din Stream Fest” to celebrate Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din on February 27. This event honors the birthday of poet Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar aka Kusumagraj, by diving into the best of Marathi language, films, theater and stories.
The fest runs through the end of February and pulls from their massive library: over 4,000 hours of content across 1,500+ titles. Think classic movies, nataks, award-winning shows, kids’ stuff and modern tales that hit home for every generation.
They are re-releasing 25 standout films from the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s, starring legends like Vijay Chavan, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Subodh Bhave, Kranti Redkar, Atul Kulkarni, Siddharth Jadhav, Bharat Jadhav, Sonali Kulkarni and the late Priya Marathe. These cover everything from laughs and family stories to thrillers and social takes.
A few gems to watch for:
-
Kaal Raatri 12 Vajta (1999) with Alka Kubal, an early Marathi psychological thriller.
-
Ajoba (2014) starring Urmila Matondkar, all about family bonds across ages.
-
Kaccha Limbu (2017) with Sonali Kulkarni, a touching coming-of-age story.
-
Vitti Dandu (2014) featuring Dilip Prabhavalkar and Mrunal Thakur, set in rural pre-independence India.
-
Priyatama (2014) with Siddharth Jadhav, a romantic drama echoing Romeo and Juliet.
Others like Vighnaharta Mahaganpati (2015), Sukhant (2010), What An Idea Mai (2011), Yeda (2013), and Gola Berij (2012) show off Marathi cinema’s mix of heart, humor and bold themes.

The fest gets even better with two big additions. First, the world digital premiere of Aata Vel Zali, directed by Ananth Mahadevan and starring Dilip Prabhavalkar and Rohini Hattangadi. It tackles passive euthanasia, dignity in old age, and tough choices with real emotion. Second, Vada Pav (2025), a fun romantic comedy directed by and starring Prasad Oak. Set in London, it follows an Indian family’s food business as they juggle love, traditions and modern taboos.
Marathi theater shines too in the “Rangbhoomi Spotlight” section. Catch plays with stars like Machchindra Kambli, Vijay Chavan, and Laxmikant Berde, including Shrimant Damodar Pant, Yada Kadachit 1 & 2, and Jau Bai Jorat. Theater makes up just 3-5% of views but packs a punch in engagement, so Ultra Jhakaas keeps adding more.
They are also highlighting hit originals like Saubhagyawati Sarpanch, IPC, Better Half Chi Love Story, Jilabi, Raakh and Khotachiwadi to mix old classics with fresh stories.
Sushilkumar Agrawal, Founder & CEO of Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, put it simply: “Marathi is our cultural core. This fest lets fans enjoy everything from timeless nataks to new originals. We’ve seen 300% growth in views year-over-year, especially in comedy, crime, and thrillers. With weekly drops and fans in the US, UAE, Singapore, Australia and Canada, we’re taking Marathi stories global.”
If you love Marathi cinema, this is your weekend lineup. Stream it all on Ultra Jhakaas starting now.
