Karan Johar Declares Bollywood's Epic Comeback After Dhurandhar and Border 2 Smash Records

Bollywood just delivered two massive hits in quick succession, and it’s got everyone buzzing. First came Dhurandhar in December, smashing expectations to claim the top spot as 2025’s highest-grossing film. Ranveer Singh leads the pack in this spy thriller, pulling in over Rs 1000 crore worldwide.

Then, hot on its heels, Sunny Deol’s Border 2 stormed theaters in January. Just three days in, it’s already crossed Rs 100 crore. These wins prove Hindi cinema is firing on all cylinders again.

Filmmaker Karan Johar couldn’t hold back his excitement. He shared his thoughts on Instagram Stories Sunday night: “The mega success of these two back-to-back Hindi films proves one thing… BOLLYWOOD (yes, imperfect term but sticking around) is BACK!” He went on, “All DHURANDHARS will cross BORDERS of excellence when the film hits emotional notes with audiences who pay to watch.”

Border 2, directed and co-written by Anurag Singh, builds on the 1997 classic war drama by J.P. Dutta. Produced by T-Series Films, J.P. Films, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, it ramps up the action with a multi-front war story featuring the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. Sunny Deol stars alongside Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh, with key roles for Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana. It’s holding strong at the box office.

Over in Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh plays Indian spy Hamza Ali Mazari (aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi), sent to infiltrate a Baloch gang in Pakistan’s Lyari. Akshaye Khanna shines as gang boss Rehman Dakait, joined by Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. Fans have more to look forward to—a sequel, Dhurandhar 2, drops March 19, 2026, in Hindi and South Indian languages for Eid.

Karan Johar’s words capture the vibe perfectly. Bollywood feels alive again.
