India’s Defining Moment: US Media Leader Praises Nation’s Rise as Global Tech Powerhouse

Hailing India’s stunning evolution from an emerging nation to a global technology leader, Mark A. Aitken, Senior Vice President of the US-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, has dubbed the current era as “India’s moment.”

In a LinkedIn article titled “India’s Moment: A Tribute to a Nation in Transformation,” Aitken applauded India’s journey from “potential to execution,” saying the country is now a driving force in reshaping the global economy.

Reflecting on his first visit to India in 1998 as a technologist and keynote speaker at the Broadcast Engineering Society conference, Aitken recalled seeing “a nation brimming with potential—spirited, resourceful, and ambitious.” Despite the challenges of that time, he said India showed unmatched resolve and the determination to leap forward.

“Back then, I believed India would lead the world. In 2025, it is,” Aitken wrote, highlighting the nation’s achievements in sectors ranging from semiconductors and space exploration to digital connectivity and AI.

Aitken praised India’s progress in emerging technologies and said the country has now become a “leader, especially for the Global South.” He cited milestones such as the UPI payment revolution, indigenous 4G/5G technology breakthroughs, and the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission as examples of India’s global impact.

The US media executive emphasised that India’s greatest strength lies in its people and educational foundation. “India’s most valuable resource isn’t underground—it walks its campuses, powers its factories, staffs its labs, and builds its digital future,” he noted, applauding the nation’s talent pool and global diaspora.

Aitken further commended India’s strategic initiatives like Digital IndiaMake in India and Startup India, describing them as “effective strategies that are transforming intent into impact.”

He also linked his ongoing collaboration with India in the Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology project to the broader theme of human connection. “Bringing people together builds nations,” he said, adding that this innovation represents more than technology—it’s about uniting people.

Concluding his reflection, Aitken remarked, “If India could focus its human capital with purpose, it would define the future—not just join it. That future is unfolding today. India is not just taking the stage; it’s writing the script. This is India’s moment.”
