Mumbai: Ramakant Achrekar, the childhood coach of Cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar, was cremated on Thursday in the presence of Indian cricket fraternity. The little master was seen in teary eyes during the final procession of his first coach.
Achrekar, who was famously known as Tendulkar’s guru, left for his heavenly abode on Wednesday. He died at the age of 87 at his residence in Mumbai.
The Dronacharya and Padam Shree award-winning coach was given a guard of honour along with the chants of ‘amar rahe’ by his students before his body was cremated.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was shouldering his bier, looked in absolute gloom. Other cricketers including Vinod Kambli, Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Chandrakant Pandit also took part in the funeral procession.
Earlier his body was kept in his residence at Shivaji Park for people to pay homage to the great coach.
Cricketers Atul Ranade, Amol Mazumdar, Ramesh Powar, Paras Mhambrey, Ranji coach Vinayak Samant, Nilesh Kulkarni, Vinod Raghvan were also present to offer condolences.
Former Rajasthan coach Pradeep Sundaram, office-bearers of the Mumbai Cricket Association, cricket administrator Prof Ratnakar Shetty also paid homage to the deceased soul
