Pune: Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) had failed miserably in winning the hearts of the fans in the last season of Indian Premier League (IPL), in which they could only win five out of 14 matches played. The franchise, however, is hopeful of turning the tables in the tenth season of IPL, after introducing some changes to the squad.
RPS, which is scheduled to take on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium here on Thursday, has handed over the reins to Steven Smith, dethroning MS Dhoni. They have also bought England all-rounder Ben Stokes for a huge sum of money for the season.
This would be the first instance in the ten-year-long IPL history, when MS Dhoni will not be captaining any side in the cash-rich league.
RPS, however, has strengthened its spin attack by inducting South African leggie Imran Tahir. They already have Adam Zampa who emerged as a sensation selection in the last edition of the razzmatazz tournament.
Mumbai Indians have also got back to flow as their skipper Rohit Sharma managed to recover with the longstanding injury just before the embarkation of the cricketing extravaganza. In absence of their precious asset Lasith Malinga, MI would be looking at Jasprit Bumrah as their last resort for the death bowling.
The match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians will be broadcasted by Sony Pictures Network, while the live coverage of the match will be available on Hotstar (hotstar.com and Hotstar mobile application).
The opening ceremony will soon start at the MCA stadium which will be graced by Bollywood star Riteish Deshmukh
